Personal Information
Date of birth 22nd September 1885. Son of Arthur and Eliza Baker, of Highways Cottage, Rayne Hall Green, Braintree, Essex.

James was; the brother of Peter.Other family members were Albert, Kate, Samuel, Lily, Charles and Joseph.

James went to Rayne School, being admitted on 14th December 1891, leaving on 10th December 1897 to work on a farm.James and Peter were the brothers of Lily Jarvis who lived in Shalford Road, and therefore uncles to Mary Cole.

James enlisted in Chelmsford. Went to France 30 May 1915.

Theatre of War

Pte. James Baker was killed on the 3rd July 1916, two days after his brother. 

He died during an attack on the village of Orvilliers  by the 9th Batl. Essex Regiment.  Sadly like his brother he has no known grave
